Finally I got the collision detection to work !, I’ve been stuck with this for a long time.
I just couldn’t understand how to make it work and finally after trying several methods I got it to work just as I wanted.
At first following freeaks tutorial I couldn’t get the character to bounce back to the floor after hitting his head in a platform. Then I changed the collision detection method which fix another problem but didn’t let me take the future x,y test the collision and decide what to do,instead the character stopped after touching the platform which didn’t let me move side ways.
FINALLY, I figure out to update the position only after testing for the collision.
This makes me sooo happy because I’ve been stuck with collision detection for weeks, finally I can work in something else and advance with the game, only one month left !
I immediately knew I wanted to participate, what a perfect way of learn more about programming and having some sort of “fund” while doing it.
I started to think about the game I would do, and while I was in my way to pay some bills I thought, “mmmm, what about making a game where the more time it takes me to finish the stage the more difficult it becomes”, like I’m in my way to pay some debts and if I take too long they take away my 47” plasma tv(?) so the game resolution goes from widescreen to normal making the game more difficult.
Which was a dumb setting because I couldn’t think of more stuff to take away to make the game appealing, but nevertheless I liked the idea.
